Removal of arsenic(III) from aqueous media using amine functionalized-grafted styrene/maleic anhydride low-density polyethylene films

This study demonstrates the development of effective modified films for As(III) removal from aqueous solution. Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) were grafted by c (Sty/MAn) co-monomer using gamma irradiation. The functionalized six amine groups including semicarbazide, L-aspartic acid, 2-aminopyridine, thiosemicarbazide, hydroxylamine-HCl, and thiourea. grafting was verified FTIR that shows MAn carbonyl at 1860 1785 cm−1. semicarbazide acid showed 100% 75% efficiency, respectively, following conditions pH 7, 50 µg/mL As(III), min contact time, room temperature. loaded chelating treated with regenerated contacting 0.2 mol/L HCl solution 90 min. results show release adsorbed As(III). analysis no change in characteristic peaks, indicating stability film functionality Additionally, or unaffected percentage up to eight adsorption-desorption regeneration cycles.
